About the Artist

Anchored in nature, Jack McBrearty’s thought-provoking art combines elements of Pre-Columbian, Ancient Egyptian and Art Nouveau influences, juxtaposed with contemporary human figures. One piece, for example, features wood storks accompanying a shaman and grandmother figure, while another captures the essence of lemurs dancing on mechanical gears in a tropical setting. His artwork often includes meticulously drawn ornamental borders heralding his Celtic ancestry.

While in grade school, Jack lost himself in drawing intricate designs with pencil. Soon after, he began his life-long affair with colored pencils, largely self-taught, infusing his art with beguiling patterns and textures of sensuous color combinations.

Jack became immersed in his artwork as an avocation while working, like his father, in Alan Wood Steel Mill and subsequently worked long days as a mailman, pursuing his art most Sunday afternoons. One can’t help but look at his enigmatic pieces and wonder about the symbolism and message lying therein. Jack does not lay claim to any answers, but invites you, the viewer, to decide for yourself what his work conveys.

Jack and his wife live in Ambler, PA where he birds daily and devotes a part of each and every day to his drawing and the fantastical world within.
